Summer’s breath caught as he shifted closer to her. Pursuing her. Her heart slugged loudly in her own ears, the rhythm picking up pace with every inch of space that disappeared between them.

She couldn’t deny that she’d missed him. Wanted him. Ready for the inevitable trip to that erotic bed she’d fashioned with pleasure in mind, Summer leaned closer to meet him for the inevitable makeup kiss.

Except then he stood.

“Let’s go grab something to eat in the restaurant downstairs and catch up.” Maybe he caught her stunned look because he frowned midstream. “If you’re not busy, that is.”

Apparently he wasn’t melting in his shoes to be with her the way she had been for him.

Fine.

She shouldn’t be parceling off pieces of her heart to him with every resounding orgasm he provided her anyway. For all she knew, maybe his wanting to take her out in public meant he was finally prepared for anything and ready to be impulsive. That would allow Summer to pull her weight with her partners by keeping Club Paradise present in social media.

The arrangement was neat and tidy and caused a tiny twinge to her heart as she longed for the simple openness of their first date on the boat.

“Dinner sounds great.” Smiling brightly, she searched for her heels and hoped she could balance seeing him with the need to keep her heart safe.
